In just two short weeks, I’ll be trading the hustle and bustle of New Jersey for the boundless horizons of southern Africa. My bags are nearly packed, my camera gear is ready, and my excitement is through the roof. After 22 hours in the air, I’ll be stepping off the plane and into the wild beauty of Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Zambia.
My journey begins at Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, one of the world’s greatest natural wonders. The roar of the Zambezi River plunging into the gorge is something I’ve dreamed of witnessing for years. I can’t wait to capture the falls at sunrise and sunset, when the light dances through the mist and creates rainbows that seem to stretch for miles.
From there, I head to Kasane Botwana and he Chobe River. Known for its extraordinary concentration of elephants, hippos African Crocodiles, and an occasional big cat throw in. Chobe promises an unforgettable experience. I’m already imagining the thrill of watching these magnificent creatures from a boat at eye level, my lens trained on them as they drink and play in the water.
Next stop: the Okavango Delta. This lush oasis is one of Africa’s most photogenic landscapes, teeming with life. From lions and leopards to birds with plumage that rivals any rainbow, I’ll be in photographer’s paradise. The Delta’s waterways, palm-dotted islands, and golden grasses make it a landscape I’ve longed to explore.
Beyond the wildlife and the landscapes, I’m looking forward to the rhythm of the safari: the early morning drives, the hushed excitement of tracking animals, and the nights spent under a sky ablaze with stars. It’s a chance to disconnect from the noise of daily life and reconnect with the primal beauty of nature.
I’ll be sharing stories and images throughout this incredible adventure, so stay tuned. For now, the countdown is on: two weeks until departure, and I’m already dreaming of the click of the shutter and the call of the wild.
